A BEAUTIFUL SKETCHING DAY WITH THORNBURY ART CLUB
As I write this, the rain is hammering down in complete contrast to the beautiful day at the Wilson Smith’s.
We gathered at White Cottage, all thirteen of us. Shirley arrived laden down with refreshments. However, there on the kitchen table Pauline had prepared for our break after the session. Mugs were laid out, together with a beautiful sponge cake Pauline had made.
Rapidly we dispersed, some to their beautiful garden and others to the field and woods opposite and the Medieval Dig. I walked down alone, drinking in the wonderful autumn colours.
At the Dig I was joined by several members, who set to work sketching. Some on their own and others in groups.
Each individual had a part to play. We all look intense on our work !
Time went so fast and I was desperate to finish my sketch of the memorial John had built. I also wanted to take more photos. I packed up to return to the house
As I walked up, I was joined by John, who had just done some dry stone walling. He told me of the amazing coincidences that led him and Pauline buying this beautiful land. They intend that it should remain a refuge for nature.
We got back just in time for me to take a photo of Colin Wise sketching before he packed up.
There was coffee and cake to look forward to. However looking at my watch it was 11.45am and time for me to go. Shirley took photos of the gathering.
There was lovely art work - and the cake was delicious !
The final piece of sketching is by Bob Prince and it’s beautiful.
Our thanks to Pauline and John for hosting us and to Shirley and Bob for setting up our very successful Sketching Days.
There will be no Sketching Days in December and January. Hopefully they will return in the Spring 2026.
