Club Night

with

Matt Williams

Tonight, Matt will demonstrate and talk about how to achieve depth, movement and drama into your landscape painting.

Having left my parents’ dairy farm in Brecon when low milk prices, rising costs and Foot and Mouth Disease conspired against us, I took up painting about 20 years ago as a way of channelling my ‘hiraeth’ - my yearning for the landscape and my feelings of regret for the way of life I’d had to leave behind.

Over the next 15 years, I saw as a teacher in a prominent art-focussed school in Bath, how art can be used to inspire and teach - to build and transfer knowledge and understanding.

Then, just before Covid, I took the leap to become a professional artist and, at the same time, undertook a Masters Degree in Illustration where I further explored the social, political, cultural and geographical losses of Wales and how to communicate the atmosphere and sense of injustice that accompanies those losses with the viewers of my work.

I aim to create this sense of atmosphere by playing with movement or stillness; drama or silence; depth and lighting, in my demonstration on June 24th.

Break & Refreshments:
We’ll have a short break during the evening where you can enjoy free tea, coffee, and biscuits. It’s a great time to relax, network, and connect with other art lovers, whether you're a member or just visiting for the night.
